Seven Limbs

This piece is inspired by an ancient Buddhist prayer, also called The Seven Limbs. Both the piece and the practice are in seven sections: Prostration; Offering; Confession & Purification; Rejoicing; Requesting the Turning of the Wheel of Dharma; Beseeching the Buddhas Not to Pass Away; and Dedication. In the tradition of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme and the music of Arvo Pärt, Seven Limbs is music put in service to a spiritual ideal.
